What is the appropriate use of rewards for Independent Reading?

 

This part of the Section considers methods teachers use to assess how students are using their time during Independent Reading, and to help students take responsibility for their own reading time.  Dr. Linda Gambrell, Distinguished Professor of Education at Clemson University, discusses research she and others have conducted on the pros and cons of using rewards to promote independent reading.
