What do we accomplish in book reading with early emergent readers? How do we scaffold success?
For our most beginning readers and writers, we usually build up small group lessons from five to fifteen or twenty minutes. In addition to doing letter and sound activities and interactive writing, the during and after reading portion of our lesson allows us to introduce concepts of print (left to right, voice to print match, words vs. letters, etc.) and the idea that books carry meaning.
